BEST TIME TO VISIT KOH LIPE

About Koh Lipe

Koh Lipe or Ko Lipe is a small island off the Andaman Coast of Southern Thailand. It is an island in the group of Adang-Rawi Archipelago of the Strait of Malacca in Satun Province, which is also very close to Langkawi Island Malaysia (approximately 59 km). Ko Lipe is surrounded by uninhabited Butong archipelago islands, just outside Tarutao National Park. This L-shape tiny island is just about 3.5 km in length and 2.5 km in width where you can complete your island tour by walking within 4 to 5 hours.

Even though, Koh Lipe is small in size & with just less than 1,000 local original residents, they are receiving almost 400,000 tourists around the world yearly. In the past decade, the island was described as “the last paradise on earth” when nobody notice the beauty of Koh Lipe. Just in the past few years, the island was flooded with backpackers and causing rapid development on the island. With the growing number number of visitors, potentially it will become another Patong Beach (Phuket) or Walking Street (Pattaya) in near future.

Best Time To Visit Koh Lipe

Quite similar to Phuket, Koh Lipe is also having a tropical monsoon climate with only dry & wet season. The average yearly temperature ranging in between 23°C to 35°C with February to April being the hottest months of the year. Try to avoid the rainy season from mid October to end December as this will limit your daytime activities on the island. As per my personal preference, the best time to visit Koh Lipe is from January to end April. Unfortunately, this period of time is consider the peak season on the island and don’t expect anything cheap especially hotel rates.

How To Go

Since there isn’t any airport on the island, travel to Koh Lipe is never an easy task. The nearest airport to the island is Hat Yai International Airport (HDY) & transfer to Koh Lipe. Air Asia offers an island transfer package that includes a flight from Bangkok to Hat Yai, a bus to Pak Bara, and a ferry to Koh Lipe.

  • (DMK) Don Mueang International Airport ➔ (HDY) Hat Yai International Airport (About 1.5 h flight time) ➔ Pak Bara Pier (About 1 h 50 min by road) ➔ Koh Lipe (By ferry about 1 h 30 min)
